Irish Racing Driver Reece Barr from Donegal is set to compete in the Kyalami 9 Hour Race in South Africa with SPS Automotive Performance in the number 20 Mercedes AMG GT3 Car alongside Luca Stolz (German) and Miguel Ramos (Portuguese).
Reece is ready to hit the track once again and take on world class competition at the Kyalami 9 Hour. The race is set to take place next weekend (23rd - 25th February 2023) and Barr will be teaming up with his teammates Luca and Miguel in their SPS run Mercedes.
Barr like many has had a challenging couple of years, with much uncertainty across the world as a result of COVID-19. However, he has been working hard to stay in shape and remain ready for the right opportunity to come his way. He is thrilled to have the opportunity to compete in the Kyalami 9 Hour Race and is looking forward to joining the SPS crew for such a high level event.
“These past few years have been challenging and not just in terms of racing, but we have remained focused on getting back to business as soon as possible, and thanks to the support from Stephan at SPS; my return to GT3 racing will resume at Kyalami at the end of this month.
I'm over the moon to be given such an opportunity and in a proper GT3 car with a winning driver line-up and a championship winning team.
Our efforts to align with the right team have been full-time and my preparations have never stopped - so I'm READY and Super excited for this one”
The Kyalami 9 Hour Race is a gruelling endurance race that will test the skills and stamina of all the drivers. Barr will share the car with his teammates for the 9hrs event, comprising of driver changes at every opportunity decided by the strategist of SPS to maximise the performance of all three driver over the 9 hours as there are many possibilities and scenarios that can occur over a race of this length. Reece is looking forward to the challenge and is excited to be representing SPS and Mercedes at the heights of International GT Racing.
