GT World Challenge (GTWC)
The GT World Challenge Europe is one of the world’s premier GT3 racing series, bringing together professional drivers, rising talents, and leading manufacturers. Races feature GT3-spec supercars from brands like McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Audi, and Lamborghini, all competing under strict Balance of Performance (BoP) rules to keep the racing close and exciting.
The championship is split into two main formats:
-
Endurance Cup - Long-distance races ranging from 3 hours up to the legendary 24 Hours of Spa. Strategy, teamwork, and consistency are key.
-
Sprint Cup - Shorter, high-intensity races usually lasting 1 hour, often with two races per weekend. Here, pure speed and precision pit stops decide the outcome.
Many teams, including mine, contest the Endurance Cup, which is known for its drama, strategy, and ultimate test of both drivers and cars.
-
Drivers are categorized by experience and career achievements to balance competition:
-
Pro - Full factory professionals and established stars.
-
Gold & Silver - Rising talents and semi-pros looking to make their mark.
-
Bronze - Amateurs who bring passion, funding, and often decades of racing enthusiasm.
Cars are entered into classes based on the driver line-up mix. This ensures fair racing and gives talented younger drivers a chance to shine alongside experienced pros.
-
The jewel of the calendar, the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa, is widely considered the toughest GT3 race in the world. Held at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, it attracts massive grids of over 70 cars and combines day, night, rain, and sunshine into a true test of endurance. Winning at Spa is one of the ultimate achievements in Motorsport.
GT World Challenge Europe was originally known as the Blancpain GT Series, launched in 2011. Over the years, it has grown into the benchmark GT3 championship worldwide, inspiring regional GTWC championships in Asia, America, and Australia. Today, it is recognized as the ultimate proving ground for both drivers and manufacturers in GT racing.
